I think that no matter what you paint, there is always the element of the unintentional ...most times to the benefit of the artwork and the artist! Superb work, Sarah!...read your blog too, thought provoking

Thank you James :) I think you are right about the unintentional happening. I once did a painting of a sink with running water, a knife on the edge of the sink, and the reflection of a hand in the faucet... yeah 99% of people read it as suicidal. I however was aware of this "false" read, and couldn't change the elements in the painting for what it meant to me personally. It was actually a feminist sort of painting in my college youth "rebellious" stage, that was talking about how we as woman tend to hold things in ourselves and it happens to destroy us from the inside... sink being womb like symbol, drain being also very female, the knife being destructive phallic, all about the inner self dying more then anything. eesh, what fun youth is sometimes.. lol this was not at all apparent to most people I know :)

and thank you for the kind words to my recent work!

As an artist a lot of people will bring their lunch to your table Sarah, not all will share your diet though..heh heh feedback can be so surprising and well off the mark to your intent!....as frustrating as it gets I bet you enjoy the controversy a piece generates all the same....a reaction is a reaction after all!
hey and as for the "sink" piece, well it could have been worse....peeling potatoes comes to mind!
Thank you for this splendid insight into your outstanding mind and work
